Coats applied too thick, skipping the top coat, or exposing fresh polish to water or heat too soon. Two thin coats sealed with a good top coat will consistently outlast one thick coat.
Look for formulas built around strengtheners rather than just color, and give nails a break between manicures when they are already compromised. A nourishing base coat underneath any polish also helps.
